I love voicemails.
Why?
Because they have to be listened to!
You know……that annoying red dot that pops up on you phone app. The text message the re-texts everyday. Even the phones that call you back until you answer and listen to the messages!
As a sales person you need to use this to your advantage.
Leave a message!
The newest member of our sales team, Faye, discovered the benefits of leaving a voicemail message.
She has been following up on an enquiry for 7 weeks now (that’s persistence), leaving messages with reception, emails, voice mails.
The prospect called in today to ask for a quote. After 7 weeks.
Were we the first company that he thought of? Don’t know.
Had he thought of a competitor before us? Maybe.
Why did he call us? Because he listened to his voicemail.
How do I know this?
Because he actually told Faye that her voicemail reminded him about our service and that he needed to get a prospect list sorted.
How many calls do we all make a day that go straight through to a voicemail? A lot!
How many of you just put the phone down and not leave a message? A lot!
Bad move!
Leaving a message is another form of followup. And considering most sales are made after 8 – 12 follow-ups, you need as many ways to remind your prospect of your services as possible!
You MUST be persistent if you are to get hold of people and sell to them. Too many sales people are not persistent and give up.
I know of sales teams that give up after 2 calls….
Is that you?
